About the firm
The Law Office of David Watters, PLLC, focuses its practice on estate planning and estate administration for clients in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.
For estate planning, the firm helps families and businesses consider a broad range of legal issues relating to the transfer of wealth from one generation to the next. Much of the firm’s work involves the preparation of wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
For estate administration, the firm provides legal advice to executors and trustees. For example, someone serving as executor may request the firm’s assistance in administering a decedent’s estate. This lengthy process may involve gathering and safeguarding a decedent’s assets, paying certain debts, filing appropriate tax returns, distributing the estate’s assets, and reporting to the Clerk of Court.
A member of the North Carolina Bar for 22 years, Mr. Watters practiced law in Winston-Salem before joining Wachovia Bank’s Wealth Management Division. As a Charitable Advisor, he managed charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, private foundations, and endowments for institutions and individuals. He provided charitable giving options for use in larger estate plans and helped charitable institutions design their planned giving programs. Mr. Watters is recognized as an authority on charitable gift planning. He is a frequent speaker on estate planning issues, particularly with alumni associations and religious organizations whose members are interested in the tax benefits of charitable giving.
Mr. Watters attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar, graduating in 1979 with a degree in journalism. After serving on active duty in the Marine Corps, he returned to UNC to earn his law degree and MBA in 1992.
The firm is located on National Drive, approximately one mile east of the Crabtree Valley Mall.
